Curious British traditions


Most of the counties of Britain have an ancient custom or traditional festival at some time during the year, many have more than one. Below is one of the most unusual British customs and traditions. strange and funny. Please read:


Cheese Rolling

This event takes place in different parts of the country, usually on the Spring Bank Holiday Monday. A round cheese is rolled down a hill chased by competitors. The winner is the first person to grab the cheese. It is a spectacular to watch but hazardous to take part in, with many competitors ending up with broken arms and legs.

    TWELFTH NIGHT

    -Twelfth night is an ancestral tradition where the people put in them doors of the houses adornments.
    -In London.
    -They put adornments in the doors and people thought that bad spirits don't enter to them houses.
    -For one day. The day before to New Year.
    -Because is an ancestral tradition, they are sure that bad spirits won't enter to them houses. Today they support the tradition.

    -the householders exchange the cake for presents,pennies and sweets.

    The tradition is ''Tichborne Dole''

    1.WHAT?
    -It is an eccentric British tradition.

    2.WHERE?
    -It is celebrated in great Brittany.

    3.HOW?
    -Every year does a banquet of Annunciation to itself.Also dole flour to the poor until 1796.

    4.FOR HOW LONG?
    -From 1796.

    5.WHY?
    -Because the Tichborne family given money to the church instead.

    Abbots Bromley Horn Dance

    It's an English folk dance.

    I'ts celebrate in England.

    The Horn Dancers comprising six Deer-men, they dance in the all village and in a farms, they walk 10 miles.

    For one day.

    Because is one of the few ritual rural customs to survive the passage of time.

  9. Hello teacher!The Horn Dance is an annual event held traditionally on the first Monday after the first Sunday after September 4th.The dance is realized in British, in the one village. The dance is realized for six Deer-men and a musician touches melodies.The dance lasts from eight o'clock, even they cross 10 miles.

    On Guy Fawkes night.
    -Why?
    One theory is that it was dropped by the Devil himself when he was cast out of heaven by St Michael.

    -Is a Autumn harvest festival.

    Where?
    -In a public place.

    How?
    -The festival mixed old customs and theatre with contemporary festivals.

    For how long?
    -The festival was on Sunday 25 of October.

    Why?
    -Because the Shakespeare's Globe.
